Available in white crystalline powder form, calcium lactobionate is used as a pharmaceutical chemical. It is basically anionic version of polysaccharide of polyhydric alcohol lactobionic acid. It is required to formulate suspending agent, stabilizer, osmotic laxative factor and also as an antacid in medicinal formulations. It plays the role of stabilizer, as antacid, as thickening factor and as emulsifier in food processing arena. Chemical properties of calcium lactobionate remain stable at normal temperature. It is non toxic and non hygroscopic by content. It remains insoluble in ether and in C2H5OH.
