The isoxazoline medication class includes the pesticide and carcinogen known as fluralaner powder. It is primarily used to treat and prevent canine and feline flea and tick infestations. Fluralaner kills fleas and ticks by attacking their nerve systems, which causes paralysis and death. It is given orally, typically as flavoured chewable tablets or pills that can be crushed and mixed with food. Following ingestion, the active component is taken into the bloodstream and dispersed all over the body, offering systemic flea and tick defence. A single dose of fluralaner powder can offer several weeks to many months of protection against fleas and ticks.
